WILL
WRONG
It was a slow start, today, and I ended up
only getting one page and change toned -- but I'm still upbeat, I try to
stay 'big picture' about the process. On a cosmic scale, one page, five pages,
it's all about the same. Of course, if we're using the cosmic scale as a
standard, I'm gonna have to start using a REALLY BIG typeface.
I was reading the Wikipedia entry, just now,
for Will Wright, creator of the SimCity franchise. Several paragraphs in,
it contains this insightful tidbit on the genesis of the incredibly successful
"Sims" series of games:
"Wright had been thinking about making a virtual
doll house ever since the early 90s, similar to SimCity but focused on individual
people. Originally conceived of as an architectural design game called Home
Tactics, Wright's idea changed when someone suggested the
player should be rated on the quality of life experience by the homeowners."
Thanks, 'someone!' I hope to heaven that you
got a good share of the cash, 'cause modern history has doomed you to obscurity!
A good life lesson for those of you with ambitious bosses -- keep your danged
ideas to yourself, or you'll be sharing the mildewy showers with Thomas Edison's
employees in the halls of eternity, whilst the Will Wrights of the universe
graciously accept the adorations of millions from atop their golden toilets
in the Great Corporate Restrooms beyond!
I am, of course, consciously being unfair to
Will Wright, who for all I know put into motion an ad campaign forthwith
to get out the name of this unsung individual who crafted his Summer Palace
for him. But, then, he's rich enough, he can take it. Come to think of it,
he can probably hire folks to do his cryin' for him.
Really, it's just disturbing how easily such
an action with such far-reaching consequences and influence has been relegated
to less than a footnote. Well, I'll remember you, someone, I'll remember
you.
