ART
ATTACK
Guess who just got a splinter right in the
space behind his pinky toe? No? Here's a clue -- it hurts like the dickens!
Still not sure? One last clue -- it haunts my every waking moment. I'll give
you some time to think it over before you give your final answer.
Got some bad news today -- it looks like my
one-panel cartoons which have run in EGM over the past year are kaput as
of the issue out in March. No worries, this doesn't affect the EGM "Hsu and
Chan" strips, which will continue as usual. The decision to axe the one-panels
are a result, apparently, of the recent magazine redesign. Progress, my eternal
enemy!
But, whatcha gonna do? Things are movin' along
here, as well. I made a decision this past weekend to take a shot at something
I've never done before -- selling original pages of my comic book art. Ooooooh.
I'll be starting small -- probably just two pages on Ebay, later this week.
If you're itching to get your hands on an original page of the Hsu and Chan
comic book, stay tuned, and I'll try to give you a heads-up as to when I'm
planning on making them available. They'll probably be in the realm of fifty
bucks apiece, plus shipping, and if you miss out this go-around -- assuming
these actually sell, mind you -- there'll probably be more coming along in
the weeks thereafter, so, well... some of you are gonna have to make a decision
between a page of original comic book art and 100 individual "Homies" figurines.
Such are the unflinchingly-brutal choices of life.
Why am I selling my art, after all this time?
Do I need the cash? Well, NOW I do -- thanks, EGM redesign!
No, I kid. The fact is, I was looking at my
art filing system -- which is really just a set of open tray shelves on wheels,
and I thought about why I was so apprehensive about selling my original art
pieces, when, as I currently store them, they run a high risk of being barfed
on by the dog, or else simply hardening into bricks. I can't pretend I'm
crazy about breaking up the comics... but at the same time, a guy who's spent
fifty bucks on a comic page is pretty much guaranteed to take better care
of 'em than I do.
But that'll be later in the week, and I'll
keep you updated. I was gonna write a bit more, but it's now 1 AM, and I'm
dog-tired. More tomorrow, then!
Oh, by the way, it was me. I got the splinter
in my foot. Ow.
