WEDNESDAY, 03/14/07 THE MUMMY'S TOOTH #58

KA-BACK

Hey, you rascals. I'm back, sorta. Not one-hundred percent, yet, but I'm shuffling along, most of the machinery's working.

As I was saying before my health bowled me under, we're nearing the exciting climax of "The Mummy's Tooth." And I STILL don't know exactly how to end this thing. I'm gonna have to figure out fast, though, 'cause it's coming right at us.

I just took a look at the filter folder for the Spooklog -- where all the sly ads for internet gambling and mexican-equivalent Viagra go when we're lucky enough to head 'em off at the pass. One week I was gone -- 550 messages. Clearly, they think you guys are suckers.

So, there's that fun to deal with. I do actually go through 'em all, try to make sure I aint accidentally deleted a legit comment, though I AM human, so if you wrote something heart-stoppingly funny and it never showed up, I apologize.

There's been a lot going on since I went down. The GDC was last week, and Sony unveiled their new 'Home" online service, and avatar-based online community, and it looked cute enough. One thing, though -- it needs way more variation in its possible avatars. That was one of the things I hated about the Sims -- everybody was a twenty-something hipster. I dislike the idea of living in a world of twenty-something hipsters. Give me monsters, old people, kids, more monsters -- do not give me the cast of the O.C..

Neat game called "Little Big Planet" was also shown -- maybe not spelled exactly thus, but I'm too tired to look it up. Very neat, though, all physics-based, user-constructed content. I'll have to see a lot more of it -- I wanna see a lot more of it. As it stands, it's kinda like a really sophisticated virtual toybox, which is a very cool concept, particularly for online play, but I've yet to be sold on it as a must-have. I don't need endless hand-holding or branding, but on a game this open ended -- where (from what I've seen) you're basically just playing with a physics engine, it'd be nice to have some kind of story or characterization to build upon.

There's more, but I'm just getting this place warmed back up, so there'll be more tomorrow. Catch you then!
